Diversity matters.

It fosters learning and understanding. It allows different perspectives to be voiced and heard. It encourages us to appreciate varied points of view. And it creates an environment that promotes the vital importance of cultural understanding.

Our commitment to diversity within the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences – and at Ohio State as a whole – is ongoing. It also is represented through these recent achievements:

  • Ohio State ranks 21st nationally among all institutions in awarding undergraduate degrees to minority students – African American, Asian American, Hispanic, and Native American – in the social sciences (Diverse Issues in Higher Education, 2007).
  • Ohio State ranks among the 50 best colleges and universities for African Americans (Black Enterprise)
  • Ohio State has earned first-year retention rate of 88.1 percent among all African American students.
  • Among all colleges and universities in the nation, Ohio State is among the top 5 percent in granting doctoral degrees and top 3% in granting masters degrees to minorities in the social sciences.

We encourage all current and prospective students to understand and embrace our ongoing commitment to create an environment that is diverse in its teaching and research, among its faculty and represented in our student body.
