GCAC's Franklin County Neighborhood Arts Program Grants over $25,000 to Community OrganizationsTwenty-six community organizations, including Columbus Housing Partnership, Bread and Circus Theatre Company and the Franklinton Arts District, received a total of $25,050 in the first round grants from the 2009 Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program. Administered by the GCAC's Community Arts Education department, the Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program supports arts projects for a wide variety of organizations to improve the quality of life and participation in the arts in neighborhoods throughout Franklin County. GCAC recognizes the value of arts activities of recreational, avocational or therapeutic arts projects at the neighborhood level, and the Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program is designed to help support these activities. The Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program is funded by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and is supported by a donation from Ashland Inc. Each year, GCAC awards three rounds of grants as part of the program. In 2008, GCAC awarded $75,721 to 62 organizations. Examples of projects from the first round of 2009 grants include: a brochure series on Columbus neighborhoods coordinated by the Columbus Landmarks Foundation; an event celebrating the culmination of a year-long gardening/photography project presented by Godman Guild; and a 12-week dance residency with BalletMet through Columbus Early Learning Centers.
