Experience the Columbus Arts Festival Presented by Time Warner Cable in Person, OnlineThe Columbus Arts Festival presented by Time Warner Cable offers more than just a fun, kick-off to summer And this year, GCAC and the Columbus Arts Festival have embraced social media to enhance the experience with a more interactive, 360 degree look at what it takes to bring this event to the Discovery District again this year. GCAC staff and Festival volunteers are using Facebook, Twitter, podcasts, Flickr and more to give fans, participants and volunteers a chance to interact and share their ideas and Festival experiences.

Columbus Celebrates The Big Read During April and MayFrom now until May 23, the Greater Columbus Arts Council will promote Asian culture, mother-daughter bonding, exploration of family history and literary discussion through the launch of its first Big Read program in celebration of Amy Tan's The Joy Luck Club. Throughout May, GCAC and its partners will present multiple arts-based events surrounding The Joy Luck Club to encourage Columbus residents to read it and celebrate family bonds and the diversity that connects our community. Programming will culminate in a presentation by Tan, who will read excerpts and lead a discussion of her book at a free event as part of The Ohio State University's President and Provost's Diversity Lecture & Cultural Arts Series on Fri., May 22 at 7 p.m. at the Mershon Auditorium. Tan will also make a special appearance at the Asian Festival at 11 a.m. on Sat., May 23.

Congratulations to the winners of our 2009 Community Arts Partnership Awards!On Friday, March 6, the Greater Columbus Arts Council awarded three individuals and three businesses with a 2009 Community Arts Partnership Award for their exemplary support of the arts as part of GCAC's annual meeting at COSI Columbus. GCAC also presented its annual Artistic Excellence Award—a $10,000 prize given annually to an arts organization that has demonstrated innovation, risk and artistic excellence in a performance, exhibition or program.

GCAC's Art in the House Student Exhibition at Main LibraryChildren from the Greater Columbus Arts Council's Art in the House program were featured artists at an exhibition March 4 through April 27 at the Columbus Metropolitan Library's Main Library. The exhibition featured artwork inspired by program artists' visits to the Otterbein College Frank Museum of Art, which houses the college's collection of art from Africa, Japan and New Guinea.

GCAC's Franklin County Neighborhood Arts Program Grants over $25,000 to Community OrganizationsTwenty-six community organizations received a total of $25,050 in the first round grants from the 2009 Franklin County Neighborhood Arts program. The first round of 2009 grants include: a brochure series on Columbus neighborhoods; an event celebrating the culmination of a year-long gardening/photography project presented by Godman Guild; and a 12-week dance residency with BalletMet through Columbus Early Learning Centers.

ARTIST PREVIEW NIGHTSave the Date for the 2009 Artist Preview Night!On Tue., Sept. 8 from 4-7 p.m., the Greater Columbus Arts Council will host its 2009 Artist Preview Night in a brand new location – the historic Lincoln Theatre. Artist Preview Night allows teachers, event planners and patrons to meet the many artists on the Greater Columbus Arts Council's Artists-in-Schools program roster. This free event features mini-performances and presentations from storytellers, theater companies, painters, dancers, musicians and other talented artists.

GERMAN ARTISTS IN COLUMBUSGerman Artists Live, Work in Columbus Thanks to GCAC PartnershipTwo German artists will live and work in Columbus during the next few months, thanks to an exchange program between the Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Saxony Ministry of Sciences and Arts in Dresden. GCAC is hosting Stefanie Busch and Stefan Fischer through June. While working in Columbus, Busch is interested in capturing personal stories through her ink drawings and photographs. Fischer, also a photographer, often focuses on light in an unconventional way, including backlight and shadows.
