And the Emmy goes to...WOSU Public Media's monthly television magazine program ArtZine, funded by the Greater Columbus Arts Council! ArtZine, which showcases local artists, arts organizations and cultural activities, received a 2009 Emmy Award for Arts and Entertainment Program from the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences at the 45th Annual Midwestern Regional Emmy Awards ceremony held on July 25 in Lexington, Ky. The Ohio Valley Chapter of the NATAS presents Emmy Awards to television professionals in thirteen markets and four states. The chapter's first Emmy Awards were presented in 1964. ArtZine, which has already won three Emmys, is in its fourth season. The show allows viewers to see examples of Columbus' rich, artistic landscape, including stories about the Thurber Prize for American Humor; behind the scenes looks at colorful events such as GCAC's Columbus Arts Festival presented by Time Warner Cable; profiles of musicians, muralists, sculptors, painters, mimes and actors; and intimate portraits of the places people gather to enjoy art, such as the city's museums, galleries, theatres, concert halls and exhibition spaces. ArtZine averages 40,000 viewers per month. "We're proud to bring this honor home to Columbus and to GCAC, an organization that has been our funder and greatest cheerleader," said WOSU TV's Cindy Gaillard. "It's a treat to work with them and to contribute to the arts in our city." WOSU Public Media is community-supported, nonprofit, noncommercial public radio and television stations licensed to The Ohio State University. For more information, visit wosu.org.
