Auction To Benefit Hanley Art Fund
The Greater Columbus Arts Council will host an auction of former President Ray Hanley’s personal art collection to benefit the Hanley Art Fund, which supports individual artists in Columbus.
The Hanley Art Auction will take place on Fri., Jun. 27 at the King Arts Complex, 867 Mt. Vernon Ave. A silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a live auction. The event is free and open to the public.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Hanley Art Fund, which honors Hanley’s life and work by supporting individual artists in the community. GCAC will make a special announcement at the event regarding the use of this fund to benefit Columbus-area artists. The Hanley Art Fund is part of the Columbus Arts Endowment, administered by GCAC.
“Ray was a champion for individual artists, and he recognized and celebrated how artists engage, inspire and challenge our community,” said Bryan W. Knicely, GCAC’s current President.
As President of the Greater Columbus Arts Council from 1985 through April 2006, Hanley helped to create a national image for Columbus as a city deeply committed to the arts. Prior to his time at GCAC, Hanley was Associate Producer of the Folger Theatre Group in Washington, Managing Director of the Pittsburgh Public Theatre and Executive Director of the Fusion Dance Company in Miami.
Hanley’s art collection features work from several prominent local and national artists, including Ann Hamilton, Denny Griffith, Tom Otterness and Linda Gall.
