A Message From the Director

Dear Greater Columbus Sports Commission supporter:

Welcome to the Winter 2009-2010 issue of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission's e-newsletter.

It is an exciting time in the Greater Columbus Sports Commission office as we work on new events that will come to Columbus in 2010.

The Sports Commission is partnering with Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on a series of national swimming and diving competitions that will come to the state-of-the-art facility in the next 18 months. This past weekend, we hosted the Speedo Short Course Junior National Championships and Long Course Invitational, which featured more than 1,300 of the nation's top junior swimmers. In February, we will host USA Diving's Winter National Championships, with tickets for that event on sale at www.ColumbusSports.org.

Also coming to McCorkle in 2010 are the NCAA Division I Men's Swimming & Diving Championships and Big Ten Men's Swimming & Diving Championships. Look for more details on those events in the coming months.

We are also excited to announce details about the 2010 The Morning Sports Report, to be held June 22 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. We have invited all four of Ohio State's living Heisman Trophy winners—Howard 'Hopalong' Cassady, Archie Griffin, Eddie George and Troy Smith—to attend, marking the first time that those four OSU football greats have made a joint appearance. It should be a special morning to celebrate not only the history of Ohio State football but also the collective success of Columbus as a sports destination.

Planning continues for the National Association of Sports Commission's Sports Event Symposium, to be held in Columbus for the first time in April. It will be a privilege to host the hundreds of destinations and events rights holders who belong to our industry's leading association, and we look forward to taking advantage of their attendance by showing off Columbus.

We'd also like to congratulate the Ohio High School Athletic Association for another successful season of hosting state championships in Columbus. Our community hosted 17 state championships in the past year, and we look forward to promoting the next wave of state championships in February and March.

To stay up to date on all events, please visit our Web site at www.ColumbusSports.org on a regular basis. Among the many features you'll find is an updated Calendar of Events that includes hundreds of professional, collegiate and youth sporting events.

Thank you again for your support of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission.

Sincerely,
Linda Shetina Logan
Executive Director
