Business Attraction and Expansion Success Report
Did you know that last year the Columbus region attracted 120 new companies resulting in $2.5 billion in investment in our region? Stimulus fundsItems on the Columbus Chamber’s 2009-2011 Public Policy Agenda received a significant boost when the State of Ohio announced how it was spending transportation dollars that it will be receiving from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the federal stimulus package). In support of the Agenda’s call to improve logistics-related infrastructure, $14 million was allocated to widen the Rickenbacker Parkway. $3.6 million was allocated to enhance the rail connectivity between Cincinnati and Columbus so that the Rickenbacker area is not unnecessarily congested with container trucks heading to Cincinnati. In support of the Agenda’s call to increase the number of health care-related research jobs, the area surrounding Nationwide Children’s Hospital received $25 million so that the infrastructure surrounding the hospital could support the jobs that are expected to be added at its research facilities. In support of the Agenda’s call to strengthen our downtown’s infrastructure, $5 million was allocated to improving Front Street so that it is more compatible with the Scioto Mile riverfront project.
